Steaua wins the second edition of the Revolution Heroes Memorial (RHM)
The CSA Steaua Rugby team won the second edition of the Radu Durbac and Florică Murariu Revolution Heroes Memorial, after defeating the British Army team in the final by 19 to 15. The final for 3rd place played between the French Army team and Farul Constanţa was won by the French 23 to 20.
Both finals were very balanced and fierce, with several scores and yellow cards. But after the festivities, the four teams celebrated together their participation in an extremely successful tournament that ended with fireworks.
The captain of Steaua, Dănuţ Dumbravă, who managed to score no less than 28 points in the two games that he played, 16 of which in the final, was unanimously elected the 2011 tournament MVP.
Aside from an excellent opportunity for the four teams to prepare, RHM 2011 also meant an extremely important event meant to reunite traditional military connections. In this context, further meetings of this sort will take place in Romania, France and Great Britain alike; as for the RHM 2012 edition the two foreign delegations participating this year already announced their intention to participate again.
"I am happy for several reasons: the organization of the tournament was very good, Steaua won, the feedback from foreign delegations was excellent in regard to hospitality and organisation. We won’t stop here; we’ll try to come up with something new every year to make this Memorial a reference for clubs in our country. I wish to once more thank the participants and those involved in organising this tournament: CSA Steaua, FRR and partners", stated Bobby Durbac, the son of one of the rugby players in whose memory the tournament is organized.
The Radu Durbac and Florică Murariu Revolution Heroes Memorial is organised in memory of the two great Steaua players that fell in combat during the December 1989 events.
