Durby supports young footballers at the Duckadam Cup
Gone far too soon in December 2024 at just 65 years old, Helmut Duckadam is a football legend whose unique achievement—saving four penalties in the 1986 European Cup final against FC Barcelona on May 7—will keep him forever in the hearts of fans, with his performance recorded in the Guinness World Records.
His excellence and professionalism are values that must be passed on to young players—the future talents who will contribute to the success of Romanian clubs and the national team. Based on this belief, his wife, Alexandra Duckadam, initiated the organization of a sports competition that both honors the memory of the great goalkeeper and inspires young players to follow their dreams grounded in the authentic values of football: passion, determination, and fair play.
As in the first edition of the Duckadam Cup held in May 2025, Durby Sports Marketing has been involved in supporting and promoting the second edition, which will take place between May 29 and June 1, 2026, at Royal Victory Arena, 31 Ghencea Boulevard. Compared to the eight U9 and U11 teams that participated last year, the event has expanded significantly. This year’s edition will feature three age categories—U7, U9, and U11—with teams from 16 football clubs and academies. Each category includes 12 teams divided into three groups of four. Participating clubs and academies include Academia Adrian Mutu, Farul Constanța, Barcelona Academy, FCSB, Rapid, Universitatea Craiova, UTA Arad, Sport Team, CS Dinamo, Progresul Spartac, AFC Unirea Tășnad, Lucian Sânmărtean Football School, New Stars, Politehnica Timișoara, ACS Mediaș, and Petrolul Ploiești.
“The support provided in organizing the Duckadam Cup represents a valuable investment in the future of the community and of young athletes. Through active involvement and promotion, this initiative contributes to the development of team spirit, discipline, and respect among participants. The event is not just a competition, but also an opportunity to inspire younger generations and to pass on the values consistently promoted by Helmut Duckadam: integrity, fairness, modesty, and diplomacy,” said Bobby Durbac, CEO of Durby Sports Marketing.
